DIWALI IN KONKAN
Nov. 10th : Early morning departure
from a convenient location or your doorstep. Stop for breakfast at
Nagothane, the gateway to the Alphonso
Belt. We meander through the verdant Konkan countryside and stop to enjoy a
lunch of locally-grown naachni and local produce at a ‘khanval’ at the sleepy
little Pethe Parushram village near Chiplun. This is the mythical site where
Parushram threw his mighty axe into the churning sea, causing the waters to
recede to its current shoreline. Here you can also stop and buy mango and
gooseberry products. In the evening, check in at a hilltop farmhouse at Nate,
nestled in More Than2000 of Mango Plantation. Stroll around the farm, where
your host will explain the varieties of mangoes and how they are cultivated.
Ride a bullock cart into the village, where you will also witness the
preparation of festive diyas (lamps) from flour and the celebration of
Dhantreyas, or calf-worship. Early dinner with aamras from the farm.
Nov. 11th: Awake before dawn for the traditional oil and
uthna herbal Diwali bath. Watch the fog roll in over the hills as we set off on
Diwali morning with a swim at the clean and uncluttered Godivane Beach. Relax
on the white sands of Godivane while feasting on a packed brunch of poha, upma
and other Diwali delicacies. Proceed to Nate Sightseeing – Kanakaditya Temple,
Ambolgad, Gagangiri Maharaj Math, Ambolgad Beach. In the Evening Boating in
Jaitapur Backwaters. In the late
afternoon, fun and games at the farm, including a Rangoli drawing competition,
